NEWS DIGEST– Nigeria is preparing to host the 12th edition of the Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) 2023 in Abuja from September 18 to 21.

The event, organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on behalf of the Federal Government, will welcome representatives from 54 African nations and various internet governance stakeholders from across the continent.

Themed “Transforming Africa’s Digital Landscape: Empowering Inclusion, Security, and Innovation,” this year’s forum aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on internet governance, addressing connectivity challenges, and driving digital transformation in Africa.

Before the main event, the African Youth Internet Governance Forum will take place from September 13 to 18. The program will commence with a parliamentarian symposium, allowing members of parliaments from participating countries to consult and network, facilitating a deeper understanding of the legislature’s role in internet governance in Africa.

The AfIGF 2023 is a significant gathering that brings together stakeholders from government, civil society, academia, the ICT sector, and the private sector. Its focus will revolve around crucial discussions on internet development, access, and governance specific to Africa’s digital future.
