Zabarmari Massacre: We are all victims waiting for our time — Aisha Yesufu
NEWS DIGEST – Aisha Yesufu, co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement, has charged Nigerians to speak up on the worsened security status of the country or risk another Zabarmari massacre.
Nigerians have raised their voice against series of bandits’ attack in past weeks and yesterday, the slaughtering of farmers by infamous insurgency unit, Boko Haram.
The farmers, sixty of them, were harvesting paddy in rice fields in Borno when Boko Haram attacked them, slit the throat of forty-three, injured six and allegedly kidnapped eight.
The #EndSARS campaigner raised alarm on her twitter page, @AishaYesufu, that everyone is bound to be a victim sometime because of the heightened level of insecurity in the country.
She tweeted: “Being good citizens will not stop the killings neither will praising Buhari to high heavens. You must call him out and give him the incentive to go after those killing our citizens and also not kill us. We are all victims waiting to happen.”
President Buhari in a statement by Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had described the killing as “senseless” and revealed that he was hurt by the development.
“I can’t sleep,” said Aisha, at 5:05AM, on the state the Zabarmari Massacre has left her.
“When they say are you not afraid to die at protest, I laugh. Is anywhere safe in Nigeria? Being a victim in Nigeria is no longer a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. The victim card is going round,” she warned.
Aisha questioned the structure put in place by Nigeria security forces to stop the attack from happening and to contain rising insecurity in the North.
“Where is Buratai? Where is the anger and outrage he expressed during #EndSARS protest? Where is the might of @HQNigerianArmy to go after these terrorists that killed 43 of our fellow citizens and annihilate them?” Aisha asked.
“Northern people gave Buhari everything and Buhari gave them nothing […]. Northern people gave Buhari support and Buhari gave them death” she added.
