Wilfred Ndidi lauds Eguavoen’s impact after Sudan’s victory

NEWS DIGEST – Following Super Eagle’s victory over Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D encounter on Saturday, Leicester City holding midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has hipped praises on coach Austine Eguavoen for his impact on the team.

Prior to the tournament, the Super Eagles were at the mercy of critics for their lack of free-flowing style of play and complacency in front of goal during the AFCON qualifiers and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

This performance led to the sacking of the former head coach Gernot Rohr a few weeks before the start of the competition.

The three-time AFCON champions on Saturday defeated Sudan 3 – 1 in what was described as an impressive performance to secure a place in the round of 16.

Ndidi said: “We are not thinking of who we may likely face in the Round of 16, we are just focusing on the next game against Guinea-Bissau,” Ndidi said after the win against Sudan.

“We are not under any pressure to win the tournament, this win over Sudan is just an extra motivation to keep focused for the next game which is the most important one.

“The coach has helped us to express ourselves more and I think it is working so far”, Ndidi concluded.

Nigeria has the opportunity to seal the top spot as they will face Guinea Bissau in their final group D game on Wednesday 19, January 2022.

However, if Nigeria secures the top spot in Group D, they are likely to face the runners-up in Group C which consists of North African giant Morroco, four-time champions Ghana, Gabon, and tournament debutant Comoros.

Morroco has already secured six points in the bag with Gabon closely behind with four points and Ghana who is yet to secure a win in the tournament holds on to one point in third place and Comoros still yet to secure a point.
