Two children, five others die in Kwara ghastly auto-crash

NEWS DIGEST – An auto accident on Sunday morning claimed the lives of two female children and five other persons in Kwara State.

No fewer than 21 others also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.

The accident, it was gathered, occurred around 3am at Otte Village, Asa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Highway.

The accident involving a white commercial Mazda bus with registration number ZUR159XJ, was said to have been caused by loss of control occasioned by a burst tyre.

The state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Jonathan Owoade gave the number of persons onboard the commercial bus as 28.

He said corpses of the dead had been deposited at the Kwara State General Hospital, Ilorin morgue.

He added that the state Ministry of Health “assisted by giving us an ambulance to support our own in the evacuation of the injured and the dead to the hospital.”

Mr. Owoade said items recovered at the scene of the accident include 14 big bags.

He urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to desist from overloading.

“I also advise people to stop embarking on night travels in their own interest, though we cannot stop night journeys,” the sector commander added.
