Tension in Kwara as mob loots Shoprite, COVID-19 palliatives [VIDEOS]
NEWS DIGEST – A store belonging to Shoprite, a chain of supermarket and department store, was looted in Ilorin, Kwara State, by hoodlums, as a fallout of the #EndSARS protests.
The suspected hoodlums had earlier looted COVID palliatives kept in warehouses located on the premises of the Ilorin International Airport.
In series of video footages obtained by The News Digest, people were seeing carrying packs of noodles, bags, television sets, bags of rice out of the major places in the city.
Multiple sources who spoke the News Digest, blamed the attack on the various premises as due to high rate of poverty in the state.
“As the entire state in being occupied by hoodlums, there is a palpable fear that the situation could assume a dangerous dimension if something urgent is not done to address the mob attacks”, one of the witnesses told the News Digest.
The News Digest earlier reported that the mob had attempted to breaking into the Nigeria customs service’s base but were repelled by soldiers.
The soldiers shot sporadically into the air to disperse the thugs, one of the eyewitnesses said.
Also, during the process, a car driver was mobbed after hitting two of those present at the scene. The vehicle was burnt down.
As at the time of filing this report the News Digest cannot ascertain the number of victims who were injured in Customs’ attack.
