Tech empowerments will drive growth to constituencies — Obanikoro

NEWS DIGEST Ibrahim Obanikoro, representative Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, said on Monday that there is significant growth to be had if Nigeria invests more in technology and small and medium-sized enterprises.

At a town hall meeting at Awolowo road, Lagos on Monday, Mr Obanikoro revealed the actions he had taken to drive the economy of the constituency and spoke of his administration’s plans to tailor 2022’s plans to improve the technological state of the constituency.

“The world has gone digital,” he said. “And the earlier we key into it, the better for our growth.”

Obanikoro said his administration actively sought trainings for artisans within the Constituency in 2021 and is keen to extend such support programmes to farmers and other agriculture practitioners in 2022.

Obanikoro made several key donations to beneficiaries at the Young Men Christian Association, Awolowo Road, Lagos over the course of an empowerment programme organised in conjunction with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

A thousand laptops and funds were distributed to several SMEs. Mr Obanikoro also gave bursary to students with immediate school financial needs and grants to some petty traders to help boost their businesses.

“It is my belief the laptops will aid our students in school work, help some of our constituents in their businesses and our police stations in information management and record keeping,” he said.

“Injecting this empowerment into our constituency will increase the bottom line Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Eti-Osa and give succor to our constituents,” he added.

As a continued contribution to education, Obanikoro said his administration would provide additional buses to increase the number of school buses in the free school bus scheme. It has also begun the construction of three blocks of classrooms each for Okun Ajah and Ajiran communities which are both at “about 70 per cent to 80 per cent complete.”

On infrastructure, Obanikoro said his administration was currently reforming four roads within the Constituency after successful rehabilitations of Sola Omole street in Ado area and Obalende Odo street, as promised.

“In general, I have been committed to the needs and demands of our constituents, to the best of my ability,” he said.
