Strike: OAU Extends Mid-Semester Break

NEWS DIGEST – The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has announced the extension of the mid-semester break embarked on by the University by four weeks.

The announcement was made via a special release from the Office of the Registrar of the University.

The University had earlier declared a two-week mid-semester break on Saturday 26th of March, 2022 which began on Monday 28th of March, 2022.

In the special release signed by the Registrar and secretary to the council of the University, M.I. Omosule (Mrs), the University management has decided to elongate the mid-semester break by four weeks.

According to the registrar, “With full realization of the import and impact of the industrial strike embarked upon by the various Unions within the Nigerian university system, the University management has decided to elongate the mid-semester break by four (4) week.

“Students are therefore directed to continue the mid-semester break for four (4) weeks beginning from Monday, 11th April 2022.

“We wish our esteemed students a productive and most refreshing break”.

Reactions from Students

Students of the University have reacted to this extension stating that the management should admit that the University has been shut down due to the industrial strikes embarked on by the various unions in the education system and not hide under the disguise of announcing or extending a mid-semester break.

Graduating students of the University for the 2019/2020 academic session has also reacted to this latest development as this situation is affecting the processing of their results and therefore limiting their chances in the labour market as they cannot say whether they are graduates or still students.
