NEWS DIGEST – The kidnappers of ten persons in Birnin Gwari have demanded a random of 5 million naira before they would release their hostages.
It would be recalled that on Friday evening around 6.25pm, armed bandits along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road kidnapped TEN people at Kuriga. Earlier that day at Kwanar-tsauni between Udawa and Labi 22 people were kidnapped including a nursing mother.
According to reliable sources close to the husband of abducted nursing mother ” the Kidnappers are requesting 5million naira for her release together with the infant. The husband a retiree without monthly Pension and gratuity cannot afford to pay the ransom” a source told this Newspaper.
Speaking also the Birnin Gwari Vanguards for security and Good Governance said the latest abduction is worrisome despite the order of President Buhari that Army station should be opened in that part of Kaduna state.
“Abduction of commuters along this strategic route linking southern part of the country and the north has further deteriorated the security of Birnin-Gwari local government area.
“We are calling on the federal government as a matter of urgency to conduct aerial bombardment of identified hideouts of armed bandits along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road, Kaduna international airport general area particularly Sabon-Birni and maidaro as well as Birnin-Gwari-Funtua road and Kamuku Forest”.
The group also said they are not safe, they noted that if care is not taken,a lot of harm will continue to be done to the community
“We are not safe and if care is not taking, peasant farmers in our community will not be able to farm this season due to presence of armed bandits around their farmland. “
The group also warned that if things are left to deteriorate ,deploying more security personnels may not work well:
“Deployment of additional security personnel to Birnin-Gwari without aerial bombardment of armed bandit hideout and synergy with local vigilantes will be an exercise in futility. Time for the government to act is now, before armed bandits crushed our entire community.”
Birnin Gwari has been hit by consistent bandit attack, with many dead and others displaced.
