Ramadan: Sokoto approves N300m to support orphans, widows
NEWS DIGEST -Sokoto State Government is spending N300 million to provide free food and clothing materials to orphans, widows and other less privileged families during the Ramadan, the Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said.
Tambuwal made the disclosure on Tuesday night during the breaking of fast with physically challenged persons and other vulnerable groups in the state.
He said the government recognise the plight of people with disabilities across the 23 local government areas and would continue to implement programmes to empower them.
The governor said apart from providing N6, 500 monthly stipends to each selected person with disabilities, the government also provide scholarship to their children to encourage the pursuit of education.
Tambuwal assured that the government would not relent in its support for the development of the less privileged in the state.
Responding on behalf of the group, Malam Garba Sarkin Makafi commended the governor on his effort to uplift the plights of vulnerable persons across the state.
He pledged continuous support to the policies and programmes of the state and federal government, and enjoined those entrusted with the N300 million to live up to expectations.
