Many feared killed as armed men attack Birnin Gwari again
NEWS DIGEST – Despite govt’s assurances that violence in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna state will be curbed, armed bandits have unleashed terror again.
The bandits have overrun four villages in Kakangi ward of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A member representing Birnin-Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency, Mr. Hassan Shekarau, had earlier raised a motion before the house, calling on government’s intervention over the incessant killings.
The gunmen however struck in the lawmaker’s Kakangi ward a day after his presentation.
Sources told The NEWS DIGEST that the armed bandits attacked the villages around 5.00pm on Tuesday and the onslaught lasted for three and half hours.
A member of volunteers, Malam Umar said so far “ten bodies have been recovered, while many are unaccounted for”.
Also the armed bandits burnt houses and grain stock of the affected villages.
Already volunteers from the southern axis of Birnin-Gwari and security men were mobilized to ascertain the number of casualties.
“Despite these attacks and kidnappings daily along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, we are saluting the Federal government and security agencies for deployment of personnel to deal with the situation in Birnin-Gwari.
“We hope more troops and special police task force will be deployed,” a community leader Hassan Lawan, said.
