Top 5 Educated Footballers with Master’s Degrees
NEWS DIGEST – Footballers are known for what they do on the pitch. There are some however who have picked up interest in roles outside the pitch. So while some players take football as a full-time venture, there are a few others who create time for education.
The NEWS DIGEST takes a look at five players (past and current) who are graduates with Masters Degrees.
Edwin Van der Sar
The former Ajax and Manchester United goalkeeper is one of the few footballers to have won the UEFA Champions League with two different teams – with Ajax in 1995 and Manchester United in 2008. Van der Sar also won the UEFA Cup with Ajax in 1992. The Dutchman is one of the most decorated and successful footballers ever having won 27 major trophies in his career, mainly at Ajax and Manchester United.
However, that did not stop him from acquiring post-graduate certificates. Van der Sar – although retired – is currently the Marketing Director at Ajax. He has a Masters Degree in
International Sports Management.
The Italy international is a monster in defense, and is widely known for his combative style of play. With Juventus, he won seven consecutive Serie A titles from 2012 to 2018, four consecutive Coppa Italia titles and three Supercoppa Italiana titles.
However, the Juventus Captain has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Turin.
A three-time Chelsea Player of the Year, Lampard is the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 211 goals in all competitions. Lampard is one of seven players, and the only midfielder to have scored 150 or more goals in the Premier League. He is second in the Premier League’s all-time assists table, behind Ryan Giggs.
Frank Lampard surprisingly has a Degree in Latin – a subject he scored an A in.
World Cup, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup are some of the medals in the Man United midfielder’s cabinet. Despite these achievements, the Spaniard boasts of an impressive educational CV. He has a degree in Sports Science and Finance from the Camilo Jose Cela university in Madrid.
Manchester City skipper and two-time Premier League winner- Vincent Kompany spent the best part of four years (between 2013 and 2017) juggling his football duties and studying part time at the Alliance Manchester Business School. He graduated with a Masters in Business Administration on December 29, 2017.
