Kwara PDP moves to avoid fall, divide party structure between Fmr. Minister, Saraki
NEWS DIGEST – In what can be seen as an attempt to ensure that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state does not collapse, the leadership of the party has started making attempts to reconcile varying factions in the party.
THE NEWS DIGEST gathered that when Senator Bukola Saraki wanted to join the party, there were lots of displeasure’s and immediately he joined, some persons left the party in protest.
However, the party convened a meeting between party members loyal to former Minister of National planning, Abubakar Suleiman and also Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
A source who does not want his name mentioned in press said the party divided the state structure between the two men to avoid defections from the party
“Our National leadership decided to divide the party structure and executives between the former Minister and the senate president, since the Senate President is the National leader of the People’s Democratic party, the former Minister is now the party leader in Kwara state”.
This Newspaper further gathered that a meeting was held yesterday opposite the government house of Kwara state to further fine tune this agreement.
It was also gathered that the Senate President has been consulting in preparation for joining the Presidential race.
The Kwara state People’s Democratic Party, it was gathered will soon hold a meeting to endorse Senator Bukola Saraki.
It will be recalled that the Senate President dumped the All Progressives Congress for the People’s Democratic party in wake of disagreement with the ruling All progressives congress .
His move created some disagreements, with many People’s Democratic Party stalwarts leaving the party in protest.
Senator Bukola Saraki is expected to contest for position of Nigerian President, if any information going round and gestures of the Senate President is anything to go by.
