Ondo State Media Awards ’21: Awardees speak, describe award recognition as non-stop service to humanity
NEWS DIGEST – As part of celebrating personalities in their various field of professions and to inspire those coming behind, the African Impact Magazine, has awarded various media individuals in the state, for their impact and development in the society in the last one year.
The award ceremony held yesterday in Akure, the Ondo state had media personalities and political figures present to grace the occasion.
The African Impact Magazine believes in the promotion of excellence in society and documentation of the African experience. Hence, a few of the reasons it decided to honour the individuals who have done well in the Ondo state media space.
The Publisher of African Impact Magazine and convener of the Ondo State Media Award, Asiwaju Yinka Richards commend the awardees for the honour bestowed on them, as part of their effort to the development of the state.
In a letter dated June 18 with the title “Investiture as Ondo State Media Personality of the Year (Online),” and addressed to the Publisher of The Precision NG, Adebumiti, disclosed that the recipients of the Awards were determined by members of the public through a voting exercise.
In a letter sent to the awardees as notification, part of it reads:
“I have the honour to inform you that the public and outside the state through a voting exercise via our online platform have adjudged you for an award recognition.
“This is on account of your indomitable passion for the development of humanity as a sure way to enhancing over growth and development, a passion you demonstrated over the years through the development of the media industry with incredible results that remain to be matched in your state till date.
“In the age when genuine reformers with sincerity of purpose, uncommon vision, focus and fortitude are bred less frequently, it becomes a desideratum to identify and celebrate those that are making their visible marks in the task of societal transformation even if only to create a sense of desire for others to emulate their noble deeds.”
In an interview by Damilola Olufemi with some of the awardees, they appreciate the organisers for such honour bestowed on them.
One of them, Adeola Adekunle, an On-Air-Personality at Adaba FM, Akure, honoured as the Ondo State Female Radio Personality, see the award as a challenge for her to do more.
“I am honoured to win the award which simply challenges me to do more and geared towards winning”, Adeolu said.
She revealed her passion for media started when was very much younger and was always motivated seeing herself in the broadcast sequence.
“I’ve always had a passion for media ever since I was little, each time I see the late Tokunbo Ajayi and the likes on NTA network news, I am always motivated and inspired to become a broadcast journalist”
She continues, “I didn’t see it (the award) coming but to be recognized after a decade on the job, shows that diligence, consistency and hard work can never go unnoticed.”
Another awardee who is also the General Manager of Crest FM, Akure, Mr Adeolu Gboyega, who won the Ondo State Radio Personality of the Year award described the award as a trigger to do more both in professional practice and service to humanity
To him, he derives motivation from seeing himself in the broadcast as a call to serve humanity.
“While on air, I naturally enjoy being in the studio environment and then I see broadcasting as a call to serve humanity. Hence, my desire to always fulfil that mandate.”, Adeolu Gboyega said.
Also, a News Reporter with Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC), Akure, Mr Richard Adura-Ilesanmi conferred as the Ondo State TV Reporter of the Year.
Other awardees include The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin (Ogunoye III); Son of Ondo State Governor, Babajide Akeredolu; Chairman Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura, Zamfara state; Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole; Former federal lawmaker, Gbenga Elegbeleye; Akinwunmi Abodunde of OSRC; OAUSTECH VC, Prof. Sunday Ogunduyile; Dr (Mrs) Damilola Oshin; Surveyor Kayode Oludare; Kehinde Adewunmi, a staff at Ondo State Ministry of Information; Hakeem Adebumiti; Jumoke Omotoso of Adaba FM; amongst others.
