Ogun: 23-year-old man allegedly murdered OAU graduate after raping her

NEWS DIGEST – Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Ikenna James, for allegedly raping and murdering his 29-year-old neighbour, Oluwatosin Adefisayo.

Oluwatosin was a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

The occurrence happened at Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the Ogun state, Daily Post learned.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer explained on Thursday that both the deceased and James stayed in the same compound.

It was gathered that the suspect conspired with his friend, who is now at large, to break through the ceiling to gain access into the room Oluwatosin at night

While Oluwatosin was fast asleep, James and his friend were reported to have raped her before they killed her.

The Police spokesman said, “other neighbours including the parents of the suspect woke up in the morning only to discover that the apartment of the deceased had been broken into.

The neighbours had invited the local vigilante to the scene, where they saw Ikenna coming down from the ceiling, where he had been hiding after the act.”

According to the Police, James was arrested when a discomfort call was brought in to the police at Ogijo divisional headquarters, while the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, directed his men to where the incident happened and got the suspect arrested.

During questioning, Oyeyemi said James admits that they had agreed to kill the Oluwatosin after raping her because she was able to identify them.

He clarified that James’ parents supported his arrest since they have already given up on him as an individual who brings shame and disrespect to their family.

They also pleaded that government should ensure that an applicable penalty is granted to him.

Lanre Bankole, the state Commissioner of Police, has authorized the rapid transfer of James to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for additional investigation.

He also ordered that the friend of the suspect who is currently on the run be searched for and arrested.
