Major highlights of newly reformed SARS
NEWS DIGEST – New information have emerged from the latest step to overhaul activities of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS).
In a press Conference today, the Nigerian Police through its spokespersons Abayomi Shogunle and Jimoh Moshood said:
“Commissioners of Police are to oversee the FSARS in their states, and to oversee all operations. Records must be kept of all operations.”
“FSARS Officials are also expected to Wear Police Uniforms as against the usual FSARS vest,anyone found wearing the vest will be punished ” .
“Tests will be conducted for all FSARS officials”
“The IGP would be introducing a Custody Records Management System soon. It is to carry records of arrests, detention and welfare of suspects. DIG would be alerted on every arrest of a suspect and can follow up on their being charged or released”
This move follows protests by Nigerians against the highhandedness and brutality of the group.
The Nigerian government had from time to time promised to reform the notorious anti-robbery squad.
