June 12: Fani-Kayode commends Buhari
NEWS DIGEST – In a rare praise, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for immortalizing late politician and philatrophist Mashood Kashimawo Abiola.
Abiola was the presumed winner of freest election held in Nigeria on June 12 1992
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari haf announced that Democracy Day in Nigeria would henceforth be celebrated on June 12 every year as against the customary May 29.
According to the Federal Government, this move is to honor the presumed winner of the 1993 General elections in the Country alongside the then Vice Presidential Candidate Baba Gana Kinigbe. Mr Buhari would also honored Human rights activist, Late Gani Fawehinmi with a post humous Grand Commander Order of Niger(GCON) honor.
Femi Fani-Kayode tweet reads:
“I commend @MBuhari for announcing June 12th as our new Democracy Day. This is long overdue and I am pleasantly surprised.I also commend him for honoring Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election, with the posthumus award of GCON.This is great news!”.
The honor by Mr Buhari had drawn wide praise and will be expected to take effect from 2019.
