Women representation should start from grass-roots – Aisha Buhari
NEWS DIGEST – The wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has urged women to participate in politics to admonish the development of their communities through effective representation from the grassroots.
The President’s wife made this statement while breaking her fast (Iftar) among women leaders at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to Mrs Buhari, it is in the grassroots that greater impact will be made in the development of communities.
“All of us as mothers should continue to be advocates of unity and peaceful co-existence in their various communities so as to strengthen the nation.
“As mother’s, we have a vital role to play because the unity of this country should not be compromised,” she said.
Mrs Buhari further used the opportunity in calling women to join her non governmental organization, Future Assured, for the betterment of the Nigerians.
On her part, Wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, who remarked that fasting and prayers were ways to glorify God for all that He had done for humanity, highlighted the many reasons why people needed to be thankful to God.
The breaking of Ramadan Fast was attended by female lawyers, media personalities, economists including including Amb. Fatima Mohammed Dikwa (Mama GMB), Angela Tony of National Association of Christian Journalists, Raliat Akinbobola of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria, Mrs Judith Amaechi, Wife of the Minister of Transport and Hajia Adama Mohammed of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria.
