BREAKING: Senators meet Buhari over Saraki, IGP Idris row
NEWS DIGEST – Senators appointed to meet President Buhari over the ongoing feud between Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim and Senate President Bukola Saraki are currently in a meeting with Mr. Buhari.
The lawmakers were appointed by their colleagues to discuss with the president over the controversy surrounding the actions of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris towards the senate.
The Senate had set up the nine-member committee last Wednesday after Mr Saraki raised an allegation that Mr Idris was trying to frame him in the handling of crime suspects arrested in Kwara.
Mr Saraki had told his colleagues that the police chief transferred the suspects undergoing interrogation in Kwara State to Abuja to implicate the senate president, who is a former Kwara governor.
The police have since confirmed transferring the suspects, but cautioned Mr Saraki not to jeopardise investigations.
Mr Saraki’s allegation came days after Mr Idris, for the third time, refused to honour summons by the Senate.
The lawmakers invited the police chief to discuss the treatment meted on a senator, Dino Melaye, the police, as well as the poor security situation across the country.
Other members of the Senate committee appointed to meet Mr Buhari are Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan; Chief Whip Olusola Adeyeye; Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio; Danjuma Goje; Sam Anyanwu; Aliyu Wammako; Fatima Raji-Rasaki; and Oluremi Tinubu.
Senate President Bukola Saraki is missing at the meeting. No reason given for his absence yet.
