Today students of public primary and secondary schools resumed in Osun State, after the June 12th public holiday. This resumption was accompanied by strong indication that Christians and Muslims in the state are heading towards a crisis, over the allowance of the use of the hijab by female Muslim Students in public schools.
The State Muslim Community urged the Osun State chapter of Christian Association Nigeria over the weekend, not to throw the state into a religious crisis but to respect the judgement of the State High Court on the issue.
Vice President, Osun State Muslim Community, Alahji Mustapha Olawuyi, said it behoves every responsible individual to abide by judgement of court and ales appeals to Osun CAN to shun lawlessness in the best interest of justice and peace.
Justice Jide Falola of Osun State High Court, had delivered a judgement in favour of a case instituted by Osun State Muslim Community against the State Government on the right of female students of the religion in public schools, to freely wear they hijab on their school uniforms.
This judgement was however faulted by Osun CAN, who vowed to appeal the matter in the higher court and treating to send Christian students across the state to wear church garments to schools to show their fair.
However, the youth wing of CAN is Osun State, explained yesterday, they were not against students wearing their hijab in public school.
