In Nnewi, Anambra State, five suspected cultists were killed over the weekend, while many other sustained different degrees of injuries, during an invitation ceremony to join a certain cult.

Following the death of five people, seven others were arrested, due to being connected to the incidents, which was reported to have taken place behind a community secondary school in the Obosi area.

Knowledge of the incident came to the public, after the school’s security men informed the principal, Ada Efobi, that a dead body was left by the school’s gate as it was raining.

It was later found out that the corpse was abandoned there by anonymous people, who showed up in a black SUV, then sped off when security men began moving closer to investigate the situation.

The school’s principal spoke to newsmen on the issue, saying, “I, in turn, alerted the community chief security man, Mr Arthur Illongwo, who immediately informed the Obosi community and the Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Musa.”

Mr Musa was contacted, and he confirmed the death of one person, noting that seven others had been arrested, and that an investigation was going on.

According to a source, the seven cultists were arrested on a tip-off, which is when they admitted to dumping the corpse by the school’s gate.

It was also reported that a new member died on the spot during the initiation and the corpse was recovered from the initiation location, while another died later while at hospital for medical attention.
