Why Post UTME Exams Have Been Cancelled


It was reported yesterday that the Federal Government has cancelled all post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), as a pre-condition to being admitted into universities and higher institutions in the country.

The government and stakeholders in the education sector also pegged the benchmark for 2016 admissions unto universities and all higher institutions at 180, in order to improve the quality of education in the nation.

All decisions were reached during the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and the higher institutions in Nigeria.

Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education who declare the the meeting open, also said the government and stakeholders had confidence in the examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and that there was no need for further examinations to be conducted by universities after JAMB.
