Monkeypox: Nigeria Activates Emergency Center

NEWS DIGEST – The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) says a National Multi-Sectoral Emergency Operations Center has been activated in the country.

Mr. Ifedayo Adetifa, Director-General, Nigeria Center for Disease Control disclosed this on Friday in an interview with Nigeria News Agency.

He said the move to activate the emergency centre followed a risk assessment conducted on monkeypox outbreaks in multiple countries.

According to him, the National Multi-Sectoral Emergency Operations Center had been activated at level two medium of watching and alert mode respectively.

He added that the Emergency Operations Center would continue to monitor and coordinate efforts to reduce the risk of spread within and outside the country, while contributing to ensuring global outbreak preparedness and control.

The NCDC discourage stigmatization, he said anybody can pass or infected with monkeypox virus.

“if you notice any known sign and symptoms of the disease, promptly contact the NCDC toll-free line 6232 for guidance on the steps to take” He said
