NEWS DIGEST – A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday remanded a 25-year-old homeless man, who pleaded guilty to house breaking and stealing of N1,840.
Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere ordered that Adewunmi Adebanjo should be kept at the Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, pending the review of the facts of the case and sentencing.
Oghere adjourned the case until March 6.
Adebanjo, who perches under the Ikeja Bridge, was charged with breaking and entering and stealing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the accused had on Feb. 20, broken into the residence of a couple at 4.00 a.m., at No. 272 Ikorodu Road, Shomolu Lagos.
Olaluwoye said that the defendant had entered into the residence of the complainant, Mr Ibrahim Yahaya and stole N1,840 from his wife, Mrs Khadijah Yahaya.
“The complainant caught the defendant in his wife’s room, and began to shout for assistance from his neighbours.
“Adebanjo injured him on his right hand with a screwdriver, while trying to escape, but was subdued with the help of his neighbours,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 308 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). (NAN)
