NEWS DIGEST – An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday remanded an 18-year-old motorcyclist, Sodiq Adedeji, in prison for allegedly robbing a man of his motorcycle, valued at N250,000, with a knife.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, remanded Adedeji in Kirikiri Prison and ordered that the case file should be sent to the Department of Public Prosecutions, (DPP) for advice.
Adedeji, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge bordering on robbery, but his plea was not taken.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some other persons still at large on Dec. 28 about 5.01 a. m. at Oniwaya Junction, Agege, Lagos.
Unah said the defendant armed himself with a knife and some other dangerous weapons and robbed the complainant, Mr Lanre Soremi, of his mortocycle.
He said the complainant raised alarm and the defendant was apprehended by passers-by.
According to the prosecutor, the offencs contravened Sections 296 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 299 provides a 21-year jail term for offenders.
The case was adjourned until March 10 for DPP’s advice.
