NEWS DIGEST – A Kaduna Upper Sharia Court on Tuesday sentenced a 17-year-old boy, Bello Usman, to 48-hour community service for attempted theft.

The Judge, Abdullahi Jumare, sentenced the convict who had pleaded guilty.

“Based on the facts of this case before this court and your plea for leniency, I hereby sentence you to 48-hour community service,” he said.

Jumare said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others and advised the convict to desist from such act in the future.

The prosecutor, Insp. Abubakar Shehu, had told the court that on Jan. 4, Isiaka Sanusi of Daura Road, Kaduna, reported the case at the Daura Road Police Station.

According to him, the complainant alleged that on the same date, the convict entered his apartment at the above address and started searching the rooms with the intent to steal.

He said that the teenager was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Shehu said that the offences contravened Sections 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
