3 kidnappers arrested after collecting ransom in Edo

NEWS DIGEST – Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested three suspected kidnappers after collecting ransom from kidnap victims in the state.

The suspects identified as Best Abarawe, Jacob Goto and Akpadulaha Yamoh, were alleged to have kidnapped an operator of sand excavation firms in Benin metropolis.

Daily Trust learnt that one of the suspects had escaped from prison during the #EndSARS protest when the two custodian centres in Benin were attacked by hoodlums.

It was learnt that Abarawe, who worked as a security guard in one of the firms, recruited other members of the gang to kidnap his employer.

It was alleged that Agbarawe took other members of his gang to the company and surveyed the environment before kidnapping his manager, Mr Kingsley Osazuwa.

It was gathered that the suspects took the victim through Ikpoba River to an unknown destination.

Daily Trust learnt the kidnappers thereafter demanded N10 million from the victim’s family but later accepted N3.5 million to let him off the hook.

The suspect also kidnapped two other people and also collected ransom before luck ran out of them.

Daily Trust gathered that trouble started among the kidnappers when the security guard (Abarawe), who masterminded the kidnapping, felt cheated during the sharing of the ransom.

Abarawe had escaped to Warri, Delta State but was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime unit of the Edo command.

He named other members of the gang who were arrested on different occasions by the police.

When contacted, the police command’s spokesperson in Edo, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the arrest.

He said the suspects have been on the run after committing the crime but have been arrested by the police.
