Kaduna electoral commission on fire

NEWS DIGEST – Less than a month to the state’s local government elections, The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) head office has been gutted by fire on Saturday.

The fire started around 10 a.m. on the top floor of the building located along Sokoto Road.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and it was not clear whether there were casualties.

Fire fighters arrived the scene around 11 a.m. to put out the inferno.

News Digest recalls that the Commission has fixed May 12 for the conduct of chairmanship and counsellorship election in the 23 local government areas of the state.

Chairman of KADSIECOM, Dr Saratu Dikko-Audu, announced the date during a meeting with political parties and relevant stakeholders in the polls in Kaduna.

The election timetable was announced following the passage of the bill by the State House of Assembly to allow the use of electronic machine for voting during the election.
