Jack Ma makes first public appearance since October
NEWS DIGEST – Chinese billionaire and Alibaba founder, Jack Ma, who was suspected to be missing has resurfaced in a video conference with rural teachers.
Yahoo had reported that Jack Ma was last seen on October 24, 2020, when he called for economic reform in a speech in Shanghai and has not made any public appearance since then.
However, the e-commerce founder, on Wednesday appeared for the first time since the October in a video message distributed by Chinese state media, promising to “meet” the rural conference after COVID-19.
“We cannot meet in Sanya due to the epidemic. When the epidemic is over, we must find time to make up for everyone’s trip to Sanya, and then we will meet again!
“In these days, I have been learning and reflecting together with my colleagues. We are now even more determined to dedicate ourselves to education and charity”.
The Jack Ma Foundation told Reuters that Mr Ma participated in the online ceremony of the annual Rural Teacher Initiative event on Wednesday, which Alibaba Group also confirmed.
