Group urges EFCC to disregard petition against Sen. Barau Jibrin

NEWS DIGEST – The National Youth Movement Against Corruption and Social Injustice, NYMACSI, Kano State chapter, has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to disregard any petition against senator representing Kano North, Barau Jibrin.

Daily Nigerian Newspaper reported that a Civil Society Organization, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN had on October 7 filed a petition to EFCC, accusing the senator of alleged money laundering, budget fraud and unlawful enrichment of his family.

However, in press conference on Monday in Kano, Sunusi Jaafar, President of the NYMACSI said the petition was withdrawn by the NYCN on October 11 and the group had since apologized to Mr Jibrin.

According to him, the NYCN had acted on a misleading information to file the petition against the senator.

Mr Jaafar also alleged that despite withdrawal of the petition from EFCC, some politicians are vehemently working to bring the matter up with some false narratives in order to tarnish the image of the lawmaker.

“For the record, the NYCN sent a petition to EFCC on 7th October, 2021 on account of a misleading information they got from shadowy sources that has political undertone.

“But when the facts of the matter were presented to them, they did the needful by recanting and immediately withdrawing their baseless petition on 11th  October 2021. And the group sincerely to the Distinguished senator,” he said.

Mr Jaafar added that “for this reason, disgruntled politicians, and those who are vehemently opposed to the continuous progressive legislative work that he is currently doing in the Senate want to use the petition to twist the stories.

“All this is aimed at scuttling the nationally acclaimed patriotic duties being executed by this patriot and probably push him off the way,” the president alleged.

Mr Jaafar therefore called on Mr Jibrin “to stay focused, remain undeterred and not be distracted by noise of those who are vehemently opposes to the anti-corruption fight going on in the Senate.”

“We finally call on EFCC to ignore the rantings of political jobbers who are doing the bidding of the senator’s political enemies through the evil orchestration of unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations,” Mr Jaafar added.
