FACT CHECK: Is Prof. Yemi Osinbajo Giving N33,000 to Nigerians as Campaign Support
NEWS DIGEST – Information that the current Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is giving a sum of N33,000 to Nigerians as his campaign support has been flying around on various social media, especially WhatsApp.
Osinbajo had in April declared his ambition to run for the seat of the President in 2023.
This followed after Bola Ahmed Tinubu had announced his intention for the same seat.
Hence, many have seen the duo as giants who would be competing to be the All Progressives Congress candidate come 2023.
The message that is currently circulated indicates that the grant is available for every Nigerian.
It reads, “PROF YEMI OSINBAJO 33,000 FOR NIGERIANS.
“Hurry Now and Check if you are Eligible to Receive 33,000 Support From VP YEMI OSINBAJO Campaign Support.”
“This Grant is Available To all Nigerians.”
A click on the grant link gives an insight behind the grant to make it appear to many Nigerians that it is the vice president’s statement.
It reads, “Vice President PROF YEMI OSINBAJO on Monday 11th of April 2022. Offer a matching grant of 33,0000 to individuals to support youth and all Nigerians to solicit your support upon declaration of my interest to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“My idea for the introduction of Matching Grants to make Our Country become self-reliant.”
Also, a part of the site requests the personal information of those applying for the grant.
However, a check shows that one can apply for the grant without inputting the information to access the grant and with a congratulatory message afterwards.
A final check to access the grant requested an invitation to friends/groups with a bar space that must be full before getting a verification code.
The information, shared by WhatsApp users that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is giving N33,000 to Nigerians as campaign support, is FALSE.
The information, as research has shown, is not ACCURATE.
The National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) only pays serving corps members #33,000 monthly after they have been fully registered, accredited, and completed their documentation at their deployed local government secretariat.
