Early Diagnosis are needed to Reduce Death Caused by Prostate Cancer – Urologist
NEWS DIGEST – A Urologist, Dr. Igokwe Martin has disclosed that Prostate cancer is common and more aggressive in black men while calling for more awareness.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja, Dr. Martin noted that cancer awareness must be taken seriously even though it is a fatal disease, enlightenment can help with early detection as it increases victims’ chances of survival.
According to him, Prostate Cancer is an abnormal growth that occurs in the Prostate gland due to genetic mutation among black genes, as such the disease is more prevalent in Black than in white men.
The Urologist also noted that the disease mostly affected men 50 years and above, adding that; “this is a group of men we screen for this disease”.
He advised men from 50 years of age and above, to take the Prostate-Specific Antigen test (PSA) test.
Martin explained that the Prostate-Specific Antigen test was a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer.
