NEWS DIGEST – A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced  three security guards to five months in prison each for stealing electric cables and six gallons of diesel belonging to their employer .

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, convicted and sentenced Torsaa Ushahemba, Emmanuel Ajiya, Amos Madugu,  them following their guilty plea.

Maiwada, however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N10, 000 each, and warned them to desist from committing crimes.

He ordered the convicts to pay N281,250 as compensation to the complainant

Earlier, prosecution counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, submitted that a businessman, Musa Mairige of House 2 L close Global Estate Jabi Abujs reported the matter to Karmo Police Station on March 24.

Ukagha said that the convicts were employed and attached to CCECC Company Idu Industrial area Abuja.

She said the convicts were employed to save and secure the company’s property but they criminally conspire stole 70 mm Flex cable valued N250,000 and six gallons of diesel  valued N31, 250.

She said that the convicts made confessional statement during police investigation.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
