NEWS DIGEST – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Monday remanded six men in Kirikiri Prison for attempted armed robbery.
The defendants – Alex Olarenwaju, 40; Felix Ejokor, 32; Bolarinwa Solomon, 23; Segun Baderinwa, 22; Sunday Paul, 23; and Henry Adeyanju, 24, whose addresses are not given, are facing a two-count charge bordering on attempted robbery.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, who ordered their remand, asked the prosecution to send the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Dan-Oni then adjourned the case until March 27 for the DPP’s advice.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused persons with others still at large, committed the offences on Dec. 18, 2015, at Seme Border area of Lagos State.
Eruada said the complainant, Alhaji Usman Galadima, raised an alarm when the accused persons attacked and attempted to rob him of his N200,000 dollars (N75 million).
“The defendants were armed with three cutlasses, six pieces of knockout and teargas and other weapons.
“The complainant later alerted the people around and the accused persons were apprehended,’’ the prosecutor said.
Eruada said that the offence contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). (NAN)
