ASUU extends ongoing strike by 3 months

NEWS DIGEST – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expanded its ongoing strike action by 12 weeks.

On Monday, ASUU National Chairman Prof, Emmanuel Osodeke announced this in a statement he signed.

He disclosed the conclusion was reached after ASUU’s National Executive Council meeting which started on Sunday night at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja.

According to the union president, the union took the decision to give the government time to resolve all outstanding issues.

Earlier, the union had threatened to extend the strike.

The union is currently demanding the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation, and implementation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of remuneration of university lecturers.
