Abuja schoolboy remanded in prison for sodomy — Minister
NEWS DIGEST–The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Tuesday presented a committee report on the sexual abuse at the School for the Deaf in Kuje, Abuja, saying one of the schoolboys, Sani Filo, had been remanded in prison.
The minister said the police obtained a confessional statement from Filo, who allegedly sodomised another boy, Muhammad Kanun, at the school, after which Filo was prosecuted and remanded at the Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State.
Adamu said the committee was set up to investigate the allegations of sexual abuse, cannibalism, and cultism at the school owned and managed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The minister had set up the committee after receiving a petition from Kanun’s mother, Hannatu, in January 2018.
Adamu said on Tuesday that the committee submitted its report to the ministry on Friday, recommending that a “A Closed Circuit Television Camera should be installed in all special schools to help in monitoring events in those places”.
He said, “On sexual abuse, cannibalism, sucking of human blood and existence of a cult in Kuje area, the police and security report did not lend any credence to these allegations. No parent reported any missing child or dead children in the school at least in the past five years. The medical team, we went, carried out a random medical examination on 170 out of the 630 pupils and did not find any evidence to support this claim.”
